Alliance for Justice Training on Ballot Initiatives

Training Opportunity: Alliance for Justice Web Workshop on Ballot Measure Advocacy Rules
October 1, 2008

The Women's Foundation of California is partnering with the Alliance for Justice to offer a trianing on the legal rules for nonprofits advocating around ballot initiatives in California. Many of our grant partners and allies are working on Props 4, 6 and 8 this year, and we want to help you make sure that you know your rights and your responsibilities when it comes to funding and reporting your work.

About the Training
Ballot measure advocacy by nonprofits isn’t just legal – it’s important, powerful, and fundamental to democracy. Many groups say they don't understand what they can do around ballot measures or think that the ballot measure reporting requirements are too difficult. This training, hosted in conjunction with Alliance for Justice, will help to demystify the ballot measure process by helping groups understand: (1) the limits placed on their ballot measure advocacy by federal tax law; (2) the California ballot measure disclosure reporting laws, including when and how to file the required reports; and (3) how to raise money for work on ballot measures.
