Changing Systems, Changing Lives: Policy Advocacy

As a statewide public foundation dedicated to using women's philanthropy to create social change, we recognize that policy change at the state level is one of our most effective strategies. This strategy is particularly powerful when it is maximized by a broad coalition of citizens who take just few minutes to correspond with lawmakers. Experience shows us that lawmakers do indeed listen. The Foundation continues to spearhead efforts to help advocate for new laws and state regulations that support the health and well being of women, girls and their families.

A Balanced Budget Solution for California

Proposed budget cuts threaten the basic health and wellbeing of some of our state’s most vulnerable families. The legislature should seek a more balanced, thoughtful solution to the budget deficit.

Paid Sick Days for all California workers

No one should have to choose between staying home sick or with a sick child and losing a day's pay or even a job. We support AB 2716 (Ma).

Protect Children from Harmful Chemicals

Bisphenol A, a chemical that has been linked to numerous health problems including breast cancer, diabetes and endometriosis, is commonly found in baby products. SB 1713 (Migden) protect kids by banning Bisphenol A from food and beverage containers intended for kids under 3.

Universal Health Care for California

The high cost of health care is one of the most critical issues facing California and the nation. We support the single-payer health care coverage program of SB 840 (Kuehl).

Comprehensive Sexual Health Education in Charter Schools

UPDATE: Instead of moving forward with SB 1600 (Kuehl) in bill form, the author’s office, the sponsors of the bill and the Charter School Association have decided to work together to ensure implementation of the intent of the bill: to make sure that the sexual health education charter schools provide is effective and comprehensive.
