2005 Gala
Our deepest thanks to everyone who joined us on Friday, October 14, 2005 for our GroundBreakers DreamMakers Gala and made the evening such a fantastic success. Five hundred and fifty supporters joined us for the sold-out event to support the Foundation’s statewide grantmaking and programs and to honor 11 champions for women and girls in California.
Honorees Kay Buck, Executive Director of the Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking, Teresa DeAnda of Californians for Pesticide Reform and Lateefah Simon, Director of Reentry Programs for the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, each spoke eloquently about their work and its relationship to the Foundation’s mission to advance equity and create opportunities for women and girls.
The Honorable Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton perhaps summed up the mood of the evening best when she said, “There’s something special about this evening; really, a moment of optimism and resolve. And, that’s because the work of the Women's Foundation of California is the work of justice and equity, is work that looks to the future and dreams about what can be done to provide better lives for girls and women.”
Additional thanks to our Mistress of Ceremonies, Camryn Manheim, the Gala Host Committee, our sponsors, volunteers and others who made the event happen.
