What We Do: An Overview By making strategic grants throughout the state of California, the Foundation seeks to protect and promote the human rights of women and girls by addressing gender-based disparities. Through the use of a gender justice analysis, the Foundation recognizes that gender has a primary impact on societal and cultural expectations and that gender influences the actions of individuals as well as institutions. Our goal is to increase awareness and change how gender-based expectations can limit women's and girls' full participation in our society. While each funding area has its own specific priorities, the Foundation is committed to the principles of applying gender and racial justice analyses, utilizing the human rights framework and working toward long-term systems change, while using an articulated strategy. As a grantmaker, we partner with non-profit organizations, donors, foundations, corporations and policymakers to fund systemic solutions. Throughout our history, the Foundation has been proud to channel the largest possible percentage of resources into the hands of the community. |
