Thank You!

Heartfelt thanks to our generous donors who made year-end
gifts to the Foundation. Our work to change the social and
economic landscape for women, girls and families is possible
because of your important suport. Thank you so much!

New Research Shared Around the State

Over the past several months, the Women's Foundation of
California has carried out a comprehensive research project
to look at the perception that media and pop culture are
negatively impacting girls' and young women's self image,
personal development and sense of possibility in the world.

Our research objective has been to build upon our highly
successful Sisterhood Program to develop a new statewide
initiative this year that will cultivate young women's leadership,
address the impact of media and popular culture on young
women and girls and support innovative programming across
the state.

The Foundation recently hosted a series of convenings
around the state where we shared the findings from our
research and solicited community input on shaping the new
initiative from our grant partners, young women leaders and other professionals in the youth development field.

Here is a snapshot of the research shared at the convenings.
Tell us what you think!

A Women's Policy Institute Fellow's Personal Account

Institute Fellow Inez Gonzalez is the Director of Media Policy at
the National Hispanic Media Coalition. Inez's team is working on a project to urge  the State (either by legislation or administrative regulation) to substantially increase the number of women participating in CalWORKs' non-traditional job training programs. These specialized but under-utilized programs teach the skills needed for higher-paying jobs and help establish economic self-sufficiency for low-income women and their families.

Workshop Opportunity: Leading Through Influence

Influencing without relying upon hierarchical authority is an essential leadership skill. Whether you are
dealing with peers, superiors, subordinates or external constituents, you need to get things done through
others. In this one-day intensive workshop designed by award-winning leadership coaches, you will
strengthen your ability to influence others by examining your personal approach to persuasion and learn
new ways to think and communicate to compel others to follow your lead.

The "Leading Through Influence" workshop on January 31, 2007 is for formal and informal leaders who
must get work done in fast-paced environments, nonprofit organizations, emerging businesses or
for-profit enterprises.

You can also support the Women's Foundation of California when you register for the "Leading Through Influence" workshop. The Foundation will receive a $200 donation for every person
who registers in the program and indicates our organization (listed as "TWF") as the source
of their referral.

Visit Institute for Women's Leadership to register. Be sure to select "TWF" in the Referred By field.
