2006 - 2007 Women's Policy Institute
New Young Women's Initiative Convenings Happening Around the State The Women's Foundation of California has embarked on an exciting research project to understand how we can best address the critical issues facing young women and girls across the state. Our objective is to build upon our highly successful Sisterhood Fund and to develop a new initiative that will cultivate young women's leadership, address the impact of media and popular culture on young women and girls and support innovative programming across the state. Over the past several months, the Foundation has engaged in quantitative and qualitative primary research as well as secondary research to investigate the perception that media and pop culture are negatively impacting girls' and young women's self-image, personal development and sense of possibility in the world. At this juncture in our research, we are hosting a series of convenings around the state to solicit feedback from our grant partners, young women leaders and other key stakeholders across California. At the convenings, the Foundation will share the findings from our research and solicit ideas about how to shape our new initiative. Learn more about this new Young Women's Program. Workshop Opportunity: Leading Through Influence Influencing without relying upon hierarchical authority is an essential leadership skill. Whether you are dealing with peers, superiors, subordinates or external constituents, you need to get things done through others. In this one-day intensive workshop designed by award-winning leadership coaches, you will strengthen your ability to influence others by examining your personal approach to persuasion and learn new ways to think and communicate to compel others to follow your lead. The "Leading Through Influence" workshop on January 31, 2007 is for formal and informal leaders who must get work done in fast-paced environments, nonprofit organizations, emerging businesses or for-profit enterprises. You can also support the Women's Foundation of California when you register for the "Leading Through Influence" workshop.
